We sometimes think that we have no control over bullying. But were wrong. Saying NO to bullying the first time and sticking up for someone can save a life.
WHAT IS BULLYING?
Bullying is an unwanted action that happens to about 80% of kids through their childhood years. Usually, between the kid and the bully is a power imbalance. Bullying has potential to repeat as time passes. Some examples of bullying are threats, physically or verbally abusing someone, or excluding someone from a lunch table or group of any sort.
pROBLEMS-If someone is at harm or a crime has been made.
-If someone is acting different that usual ( sad or anxious) -If you or someone you know is thinking of suicide -If you know of a child who is being bullied |
sOLUTIONS-Call 911
-contact counseling service or a doctor -Immediately contact the National Suicide Hotline ( found on 'Reference' page) -Tell a teacher,principle, parent, or a councilor |
STATISTICS
- 56% of students have witnessed bullying at school.
- 15% of school absences are directly related to fears of being bullied.
- 71% of students report incidents of bullying as a problem at their school.
- 90% of 4th through 5th graders report being bullying victims.
